USEFUL INFORMATION
Wright Dropouts: PMW's Wright dropouts are so named because Mark saw a similar dropout in the Wright brother's workshop preserved at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI. The Wrights brothers are the same ones who invented the airplane, but built bicycles before they became famous.
Other builders have used this style, and some have tried to claim it as their own. Whether it was invented by the Wrights or not, it's fair to say that they were early users of this type of dropout. In this context, any PMW round dropout with a flange is listed as a Wright. They are also known by other names such as hooded, Koski, Breezer, Ibis, KGB and Champion.
Wright Dropouts and Single Speeds: If you wish to use the 1 1/2" Wright dropouts for a single speed, order the 6061 hanger and cut off the hanger portion. We currently do not offer a blank hanger to fill in for single speed applications. Helpful hint: careful cutting on the derailleur area can result in a fully functional bottle opener.
6061 Hangers vs. 7075 Hangers: 6061 hangers are more ductile than 7075 hangers but do not have 7075 tensile strength. A 6061 hanger will bend before it breaks. A 7075 hanger will take a bigger hit than the 6061 but will fail catastrophically. In either case it is adviseable to keep a spare with your bike.
Axle slots: Front axle slots are 9 mm, rear axle slots are 10 mm.
Low Mount Disc Dropouts: When these were designed, we paid careful attention to the size of currently available disc calipers and the position of the seatstays and chainstays in relationship to the calipers. Most modern, small, low-profile calipers will fit. Please be aware that not ALL calipers will be able to fit properly in this confined space. Please do a mock-up with the caliper you intend to use before you start building the frame.
Because of the long length of the chainstay tab, heel clearance may be compromised. For maximum clearance put the chainystays on the inside face of the chainstay tab.
